Day Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Paro, Transfer to Thimphu
  • Distance: 65 kms
  • Driving Time: 2 hrs
  • Altitude of Thimphu: 2,350 mts

Upon your arrival at Paro Airport, after completing the immigration formalities, you will be greeted by your Bhutanese guide who will escort you to the capital city, Thimphu. On the way, make a stop at Chuzom, the meeting point of the Thimphu (Wang Chhu) and Paro (Pa Chhu) rivers. This location features three distinct stupas, representing Bhutanese, Tibetan, and Nepalese architectural styles. Once you arrive in Thimphu, check into your hotel and enjoy some free time in the evening to relax or explore the city at your leisure. Overnight stay at your hotel in Thimphu.

Day 02: Thimphu Sightseeing

After breakfast, embark on a tour of Thimphu city, beginning with the iconic Buddha Dordenma Statue at Kuensel Phodrang, which offers a sweeping view of the city. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, a site of spirituality and heritage, followed by the Folk Heritage Museum to glimpse traditional Bhutanese life. Explore Changangkha Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples, and the Motithang Takin Reserve. The day ends with a visit to the majestic Tashichho Dzong, a fortress that houses government offices and the central monk body. Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 03: Thimphu to Paro Sightseeing

After breakfast, depart for Paro, a scenic 65 km drive that takes about 2 hours. En route, visit the historic Tamchog Lhakhang, built in the 13th century by the famed Iron bridge builder, Thangthong Gyalpo. Upon arriving in Paro, explore Ta Dzong, an ancient watchtower now serving as the national museum, offering panoramic views of the Paro Valley. Next, visit the Paro Rimpung Dzong, known as the "Fortress of the Heap of Jewels," built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Stroll across the Nemi Zam Bridge, a traditional covered bridge that links Paro town to the Dzong, and visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most revered temples. Spend the evening at leisure and stay overnight at a hotel in Paro.

Day 04: Paro Sightseeing

Begin the day with breakfast and then embark on a journey to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger’s Nest, perched at 3,100 meters in the Upper Paro Valley. According to legend, Guru Rinpoche traveled here on a tigress’s back to meditate, making it a sacred site. The hike to the monastery is vigorous, taking about 5-6 hours round trip, featuring steep paths and narrow stairs, hence it is not recommended for small children or the elderly. After this spiritual and physical adventure, return to your hotel in Paro for the night.

Day 5: Departure from Paro

After breakfast, depart for Paro Airport to catch your flight back home, carrying with you memories of a lifetime from the Land of the Thunder Dragon.
